Posted Date: 06/23/2021

Logan Bacorn was nominated by 6th-grade teacher, Deena White, to attend the

Lone Star Leadership Academy Summer Camp.

Education in Action offers Sunday-Friday, overnight Lone Star Leadership Academy camps for outstanding Texas 4th-8th graders throughout the summer. Nominated students from across Texas meet in Houston/Galveston for a week of fun, learning, leadership development, and visits to unique and historically significant Texas destinations. Each day students explore notable Texas sites, learn about unique careers from professionals at sites visited, and develop their leadership abilities.

Houston/Galveston camp highlights include touring Galveston Bay on board the SEAGULL II with a marine biologist, visiting mission control for the historic Apollo 11 trip to the moon at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, interacting with endangered plants and animals at Moody Gardens, ascending nearly 500-feet on an elevator ride to the observation deck of the San Jacinto Monument commemorating the final battle of the Texas Revolution, imagining life as a sailor on board Battleship Texas which took part in some of the most significant battles during both world wars, and walking through hundreds of species of butterflies from around the world at The Cockrell Butterfly Center. The week concludes with an overnight stay at the George Observatory with stargazing through one of the largest public telescopes in the United States and working in teams to complete a simulated space mission.
